Post Production Evaluation

Evaluation

My text challenges my genre conventions in several ways, for example the colour scheme. When looking at other magazines in my particular genre I noticed that they all used at least two primary colours which I thought I would challenge in my own finished product to give it a more modern and unique feel to it. I decided to stick to three very similar colours these being black grey and white. Also by using these colours I felt it would attract a wider variety of people. For example those interested more in rock music. Also For my the central image that i used on the front cover of my magazine I chose to have a female model rather than a male model. My reasoning behind this is that I wanted to break through the mould of stereotyping, as usually when you see a model on the cover of a magazine holding a guitar I noticed when researching that it was usually done by male models. When choosing the shot angle of my central image I also wanted to challenge my genre conventions as in RnB magazine they tend to shoot there central image using either mid shot or close-ups all of which use direct mode of address. With this in mind I decided to do the total opposite I used a high angle shot to show the power and status of the model, and I didn't use direct mode of address which is one of the main genre conventions in RnB. By giving no eye contact I felt it gave my cover an edge to it, almost like the model is to cool to look at the camera. Also I thought that by having the model with their head down its shows that the audience would still know who the artist was without needing to see their face also showing status and popularity. When looking at existing magazine in this genre I noticed that many of them used a lot of copy and where very busy. After looking and thinking how I could challenge the genre conventions I thought that I would try to use less copy but still try and fill the space without making it look bare..................................................................................................

There are many Different institutions which I feel may distribute my product, for example Q magazine. I believe this magazine may want to distribute my product as I think this would give the magazine a wider variety of genres. This also gives the magazine a large audience to work with which therefore means it would give Q magazine lots of benefits and advantages. For example profit and popularity. .............................................................................................When making my magazine I thought about my target audience in depth. I produced a questionnaire which I then got people to complete so I could work out lots of different things including the best target audience for my product. Taking these results in to account I came to the conclusion that my magazine would be best suited and be most popular with people between the ages of 13-19 which is teenagers and young adults. .................................. I attracted my target audience in several different ways. Firstly the colour scheme I didn’t want my cover to look to bright and colourful as I thought this would attract a much younger audience rather than my target audience which I was aiming for. Therefore I used the colour scheme of black’s greys and whites which are associated with a older audience and gives the magazine overall a more unique and sophisticated look. Also by using the latest and up to date RnB artists that are in the charts today, I feel this helps to attract and address the audience’s wants and needs. I felt that the price of my product would be a big factor also. Because my target audience is teenagers and young adults I had to think of a price which was suitable and realistic for this age range of people. By adding different effects to my copy such as drop shadow. ..........................................................................................................Looking back at my preliminary task I have learnt many different things throughout the progression to produce my final product. Firstly I have learnt and developed my skills both on Photoshop and Adobe In design which allowed me to make my finished product look a lot more professional and of a higher standard. Some of the different skills learnt to use on these pieces of software include the patch tool which allows you to edit parts of a photo out that you do not want but yet makes it look like no editing has been done yet again giving the overall look a professional touch.
